Dr. Jiuzhou Song’s main work is to use statistical genetics and computational epigenetic methods to study the interaction between livestock genomes and environmental factors (such as virus infection and diet style) to improve animal health and performances and growth development, especially on biomarker identification and systems biology. As an internationally-recognized expert in animal genomics and epigenetics, he has trained more than 45 postdoctoral fellows, visiting scientists, and graduate students and published more than 180 peer-reviewed manuscripts. Notably, his research has drawn the attention of public media such as the UMD newsletter, Science Daily, and Maryland Public Television, and triggered broad social impact through its applications. He chaired symposiums and workshops of epigenetics in Plant & Animal Genome Conferences and the 2018 International Symposium on Animal Health & Inheritance of Disease Resistance. He has served as associate editors and editorial board members for more than ten peer-reviewed journals.
